Pietro Franzina

Professor Pietro Franzina is a distinguished expert in Private International Law, currently serving as Full Professor and Director of the Institute of International Studies at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan. His academic career spans over two decades, including a decade-long professorship at the University of Ferrara. Professor Franzina has contributed extensively to legal education beyond universities, delivering specialized courses at the Hague Academy of International Law and training magistrates and legal professionals across Europe. His scholarly credentials include a PhD from the University of Padova and a “Laurea in Giurisprudenza” from the University of Ferrara.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Professor Franzina plays an active role in international legal policy and cooperation. He participates as a member of several Italian and European delegations to the Hague Conference on Private International Law, contributing to key conventions on the protection of adults and the recognition of foreign judgments. He has also co-authored influential studies for the European Parliament and Commission. Since 2019, he has held the position of Deputy-Secretary General of the European Association of Private International Law and acted as co-rapporteur for projects under the European Law Institute, highlighting his leadership in advancing international legal standards.
