Tetsuo Morishita
Professor, Sophia University
Professor Tetsuo Morishita is a faculty member at the Faculty of Law, Sophia University, where he has taught since 1999 and has served as Professor of Law since 2007. He held several leadership roles at the university, including Dean of the Law School and Vice President for Global Academic Affairs. Before entering academia, he worked at The Sumitomo Bank, gaining experience in the financial sector over a ten-year period.
Professor Morishita earned his B.A. and M.A. in law from the University of Tokyo. His recent research focuses on the legal treatment of digital assets and financial technology, with publications covering cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and insolvency law in cross-border contexts. He is co-editor of Cryptocurrencies in National Laws: A Global Survey (Brill, 2025), and contributor to multiple international volumes on fintech and private international law. In 2023, he received the Japan Bankers Academic Research Promotion Foundation Award for his scholarly work.
