Ick-Joong Chung
President, National Center for the Rights of the Child
Dr. Ick-Joong Chung is the President of the National Center for the Rights of the Child in Korea, a role supported by decades of academic leadership and public service in the field of child and adolescent welfare. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Washington, with both bachelor's and master’s degrees in Social Welfare from Seoul National University. Since 2008, he has served as a Professor in the Department of Social Welfare at Ewha Womans University, while also playing leading roles in numerous government advisory bodies related to youth protection, social security, and family policy.
Dr. Chung has previously served as President of the Korean Association of Youth Welfare (2021–2022) and the Korean Association of Child Welfare (2018–2020). His public service includes key appointments such as Chairperson of the Policy Review Committee on Women and Children under the Ministry of Justice (2021–2023) and Civilian Member of the Presidential Committee on Ageing Society and Population Policy (2022–2024). With academic and policy experience spanning over two decades, including earlier positions at Duksung Women’s University and the University of Washington, Dr. Chung has been a central figure in advancing the rights and well-being of children and families in Korea.
